Mineral Intelligence
video, 9’50”
2011

The relationship between the imagery of this three-part video work, and the detached descriptions of material life, human endeavours, and the life of Saint Denis, is not entirely obvious. Molecular becoming and the contingencies of human history become linked. Saint Denis’ story relates to our fascination with rebellion against sovereign authority, but also in how the biologically impossible relates to dreams of immortality and salvation (living on despite the fragmentation of the body — reminiscent of the praying mantis).
